A workshop for learning the art of matt cutting. A week before our first real meeting of the year.
First meeting back, Meet and Greet
We'll open the year with a sausage sizzle and a welcome back. Our 2018 Winners will, hopefully, give us a rundown on how they created their winning images. Our competition Steward, Tania, will go over our competition rules and mounting requirements to comply with VAPS rules.

A look at how your camera actually works and some basic maintenance you should perform on your camera and lenses.
Entries do for VAPS Interclub.
A great opportunity to capture images for our Architecture competition (due March 26). A city photowalk is a wonderful way to see how other members capture their images, to socialise and to learn from one another.
We'll meet at the steps of the State Library, our walk will likely take us around the RMIT (Storey Hall), perhaps the Old Gaol and high rise buildings in A’Beckett St (Reflections). Final route to be revealed on the day.
Judging Competition 1: Monochrome
Judging our first competition of the year. Judging nights are great, not only do you get feedback on your own image, you can see how the judge evaluates the work of others and learn valuable lessons along the way.

APJA Level 1 Judging
We'll be hosting a level 1 class for the APJA's Judging Workshop. Cost and time will be advised closer to the date.
Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne
We'll be meeting up for a photowalk around the gardens. It should provide plenty of opportunities to try your hand at different photography disciplines including landscape and macro work.
In addition to the gorgeous gardens, we'll have a professional model on hand so our members can try their hand at making portraits with a real live person.
Meet up at Gate C on Anderson Street at 2:30pm sharp.

Complementary Colours & Reflections
We'll explore the use of complementary colours in photography and reflections in anticipation of competitions later in the year.

Portraits with Flash and Studio Lights
Let's make art with people and light. We'll run through a few setups and look at the use of light in portraiture. Different lighting for men vs women, and creating mood.

Sport Shoot: Equestrian 3-day event at Werribee Park
This even runs from the 6th – 10th June, 2019 with different events each day. The ideal day is the cross-country where the horses run around the whole of Werribee Park jumping and running water traps. It's a great photo opportunity.

Reflections are everywhere... how will our visiting judge feel about our images.
Understanding Your Camera
We'll meet at Williamstown Botanic Gardens and run through the settings on our cameras. The morning will be great for those looking to move off automatic. Bring along your camera and its manual. We'll have members on hand to help out.

Flash and Blur and Stroboscopic Flash
We'll be investigating the use of our flash to both create blur AND sharp images.
Before the evening take a look at your camera manual, we'll be using "rear curtain sync", sometimes called 2nd curtain sync.

Fungi Hunting & Lunch
We're heading to Mt Macedon in search of Fungi. Be sure to pack your macro gear if you have it, bring along something on which to kneel or lay as we'll be getting low to the ground. Dress warm, and maybe pack some spare clothes.
We'll then stop in at a local place for some lunch.

AGM and Judging Competition 4: Complementary Colours
Our AGM, then some judging and it's also a supper night.
We're breaking out of the clubrooms and heading to the beach! Meeting point is at the end of Millers Road and to the right. You'll no doubt see us there.
A workshop exploring the use of light for painting on our cameras. We'll be looking at using manual mode during this workshop.

Phillip Island Weekend Away
A packed agenda organised by Gayle, Margaret, and the team. Covers Saturday and Sunday's events as well as some extras for those arriving on the Friday.

We'll begin this night with a short presentation about the judging process and then conduct an image review. These meetings encourage critical thinking and the conveyance of constructive feedback that you can apply to your own image selection criteria.

A night of judging our Domesticity and Open competition.
Model Portraiture - Williamstown
We'll be working with two models in groups to practice working with people and direction models into poses, as well as working on our technical skills in controlling natural light and flash outdoors.

We'll look at using Lightroom and Photoshop to enhance our creativity with regard to our post production workflows.
Werribee Zoo Photoshoot
Meet at the end of the restaurant at the meerkats at 10:30.
It's been a while since we've been to a zoo as a club and Werribee Zoo has plenty of opportunities for you to capture.
Bring your long lenses. The lions, will challenge you to take photos through the mesh in their enclosure, use a low ƒ number. If you’re going on the bus, stick to the front, the back seats often see a lot of dust.
